Is people-pleasing holding you back in your career & life?

I feel like we know each other already. You’re a caring, nurturing, professional woman who wants to live a vibrant life and loves keeping everyone happy. And, on the surface, you’ve got everything you were supposed to want. You have the partner and the family and the ‘good’ job, climbing the corporate ladder.

But the truth is, you feel like a fraud.

Yes, your career is important to you. But you feel like you’re not meeting your potential. Most days, you feel equal parts invisible and ignored. You’d really like clarity on your next career step and a whole bunch more confidence to go with it.

Yes, your family means everything to you. But in your mind, you’re letting them down every day of the week.

And you’d love to have more energy for friends, creativity or hobbies. But you’re so exhausted, you can barely get off the couch.

You tell yourself that everything is ‘fine’. But here’s the funny thing about ‘fine’. It’s great right up until it isn’t. Women rarely stay in the world of fine forever. You see, ‘fine’ is often the doorway to burnout, chronic health issues, failed careers and families falling apart.

Deep down, you’re certain your life – including your career – could be so much bigger and brighter, if only you could find the self-trust to live your life your way.

Let’s face it – you want a fabulous life. A fulfilled life. A self-styled life.

And, you’ve come to the right place. Because you deserve more than fine.

It’s time! Join me and all of the women like us who are building the self-belief that will support us to have the lives and careers we deserve. It’s time to start living bravely and vibrantly. It’s time to create a career and life you love.

Self-doubt holds women back in so many ways. It has the power to stop them from upgrading any element of their life. From careers to health, from relationships to creativity, if you can’t trust yourself to choose what you want or don’t believe you can have it, you’re probably not going to get very far.

But it’s heart-breaking how often women don’t recognise their self-doubt as something that keeps them stuck. As a trained self-belief coach I’ve learned that self-doubt is a completely understandable response to psychological risks like disappointment, failure, conflict and rejection. And feeling stuck has nothing to do with capability, destiny or being wrong and everything to do with the ways we’ve learned to preserve our sense of safety and belonging. The truth is, it’s our sophisticated protective beliefs and protective behaviours (like procrastination, perfectionism and people-pleasing) that keep us stuck.

Adding self-belief coaching to traditional career coaching allows women to access their inner wisdom and to discover who they are underneath their self-doubt. I work with my clients to:

  • heal the underlying causes of the self-doubt that holds them back in their career and life
  • build the tools and resources required to negotiate self-doubt in any situation
  • grow their self-belief, self-acceptance, self-worth and self-trust
  • tap into their strengths and to ultimately live and work in a way that’s fulfilling, meaningful and feels true for them

I’m Janelle

I love transformation. Big shifts. Little upgrades. Taking things and changing them into something better has turned out to be a big part of my life. And although I didn’t know what to call it then, my interest in transformation started when I was a kid. I was forever trying to improve things – although I’m not entirely sure that my sister or the cat always appreciated my efforts.

Now, I spend my days utilising three decades of retail banking management experience to lead large scale innovation at an Australian bank. And in my coaching & mentoring practice, I support professional women to unravel their self-doubt so that they can build tailor made, self-styled careers – and lives.

While the conversations are very different in both elements of my career, the strategies I employ are almost identical. They centre around creating environments where people can perform at their very best – because at the end of the day, it’s people who deliver and sustain real transformation.

My signature coaching framework

I developed my signature coaching framework which intentionally combines clarity, mindset and action after watching so many women in the corporate world either burn out or walk out. And every time, I’d be blown away by the potential these women left on the table.

Over time, I noticed that similar things were happening to women who didn’t work in corporate. Yep – I realised that women anywhere could wake up one day and feel completely lost in their career, drowning in self-doubt and overusing protective behaviours like people-pleasing.

These experiences left me committed to sharing the strategies that help women aim high, get clear on what they want, navigate their self-doubt and take real action. Why? So that they can build lives and careers full of excitement & happiness and reach their full potential.

A new level of confidence…

Coaching with Janelle has completely changed my life.  Before I started coaching, I was stuck in an unfulfilling job and only had time for work and running my household.  I wasn’t enjoying much in my life.

During each session, I learnt more about myself and the stories and beliefs that were holding me back.  I developed a clear vision of what I wanted my life to look like.  Janelle made it easy from the first session and supported me throughout my journey in her genuine and caring way.

Working with Janelle has made me a much better version of myself.  I am now intentional about my career, my relationships, and what I want out of life. I find making decisions easier and have a new level of confidence that I didn’t think was possible.  I’m looking forward to my future!

Pre-empting – An emerging protective behaviour

I’ve shared many times on the Self.Styled.Life podcast and in my journal about the common self-protective behaviours. Six of these behaviours were introduced to me by the awesome Sas Petherick and they include people-pleasing, paralysis, perfectionism,...

The real reason you feel like a fraud

The real reason you feel like a fraud

You have no idea how often the women I work with - either in coaching or in corporate - tell me they feel like a fraud. Or they’ll reference their imposter syndrome. Or they’ll be a little less direct with their language and say things like ‘I was probably the only...

How do you take care of yourself?

How do you take care of yourself?

It almost always breaks my heart when I ask women the question 'How do you take care of yourself?' and they answer with words like ‘Not very well’ or ‘I don’t’ or ‘I’ve let myself go’. We can’t fill from an empty cup and if we want to show up fully to our careers,...
